Announcements – August 14

Does anyone know anything about the door that has appeared in the church garage?  We will once again be organizing and cleaning the church garage.  Please check with Fr. Phillip before placing anything more in this space.

Kyle leaves for St. Vladimir’s Seminary in New York this Tuesday.  Please ensure that any financial gifts to cover Kyle’s seminary costs be made out to Kyle and not to the church as the church cannot designate funds for him.  Cheques made out to Kyle can be placed in the offering box and the church will forward them to him.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Marda Gras.  We raised over $2,200 with the pie cafe and bake sale, and had very successful tours of the sanctuary and presentations on our faith, increasing visibility in our community.

Remember: August 21 is the annual church picnic at Edworthy Park, site 1, following Liturgy.  The church will provide coffee, tea, and lemonade, as well as a BBQ for anyone wishing to use it. Please bring your own picnic lunch for your family, including plates, cutlery and food.  A map to the site will be available at the church.  Please bring outdoor toys and games as we have the site for the whole afternoon!

If you pick up church mail from the mailbox, please put it all into Sue S.’s mailbox downstairs.  Important mail, such as bills, have been frequently misplaced of late.  Thank you!

Updated directories are now available in the narthex.

Flowers have been planted out front and below the sign at the church.  If you are at a service, please water the flowers if you can and write your name down on the watering calendar/checklist in the narthex.  Thank you!

A new volunteer to produce the weekly bulletins is needed.  The ability to prepare variables (torparia etc.) for services is not necessarily required, as the bulletin will be changed to a simple-to-update format.  Please speak to Leanne or Fr. Phillip if you are able to help.

An interim building & grounds coordinator is needed for Parish Council until the AGM.  If you are able to help, please speak to any Parish Council member.

Registration is open for the Annual Orthodox Women’s Retreat on September 16-18, 2011 at Entheos Retreat Centre.  More information and registration forms are available on the bulletin board in the narthex.  The registration deadline is August 30.

Marda Gras is next weekend.  Ann-Christine still needs several volunteers.  People are needed to bring individually wrapped baked goods for the bake ale, and pies for the pie cafe.  Alternatively, you may make a monetary donation to cover the cost of ingredients and another volunteer will bake the pies.  People are also needed on the day of the event to come early and set up tents.  Sellers, greeters & cafe volunteers are still needed as well.  This may be our last Marda Gras due to changes in festival regulations, so please do your best to come and help out!
