Music/Choir Practice     We will be having choir practices after Wednesday Vespers and Sunday Divine Liturgy. Each week, practices will offer an opportunity to become more comfortable with our current music as well as opportunities to become familiar with new musical arrangements. Whether you wish to stand in the choir during service or just wish to gain more confidence in your singing, you are welcome.

St. Peter’s Institute on the Spiritual Life     Visiting U of A professor David Goa will provide an initial reflection and animate our conversation on an exploration of the Orthodox tradition’s understanding of the nature and purpose of the church and of our liturgical life together. Each session will begin with a brief prayers service. The next two sessions will be:

All-American Council     Our lay-delegate to the All-American Council (Oct.31-Nov.4) is Pavle and our alternate is Bill. If you are interested in attending as an observer, please see Fr. Phillip and complete the appropriate Observer Form.

Special Parish Meeting - Interim Bylaw Amendment     In light of the parish survey done this last year and discussions held with parish council, a special meeting of the parish is being called by Fr. Phillip to make a temporary change to the bylaws in advance of the annual meeting. The recommended changes are currently being prepared and will be distributed to the community prior to the meeting which will be held after the liturgy on October 2. This is the first of three announcements made in advance of this meeting.

  • The proposed by-law amendment will address the transfer of memberships between OCA parishes.
  • In addition, we will address the TTT  forms (Time, Talent and Treasury) as they relate to voting membership.

St. Peter the Aleut Feast Day     September 24 is the feast day of St. Peter the Aleut.  On Friday, September 23 we will have a Vesperal Divine Liturgy at 6:00 followed by a salmon supper.   The church will provide the salmon, with the remainder being a potluck – starches, veggies, salads, desserts, wine. We will need at least three BBQs to cook the salmon.  Please RSVP to Pav with whether you can provide a BBQ and/or the item you will bring for potluck – thank you!

Services for Dan Boghean     At 8:25 am, September 16, Dan Boghean fell asleep in the Lord in the midst of his family. Shortly before he passed away, he and his family were able to spend some time in prayer. The services will be held as follows:

  • Prayers: Thursday, September 22 at 7:30 pm - Foster’s Garden Chapel & Crematorium - 3220 4th St. NW  Calgary, AB  T2M 3A5
  • Funeral Service: Friday, September 23 at 10:00 am - St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church - 404 Meredith Rd. NE  Calgary, AB  T2E 5A6

The interment will occur immediately after the service, followed by lunch at Foster’s Garden Chapel & Crematorium

Announcements – September 11

A Message from the St. Peter the Aleut Camp Board We want to
take a moment to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s
camp such a success. To those of you who donated money to camperships, or
helped shop for food, or drove an extra camper to camp, or volunteered their
time on site, or helped out in a myriad of other ways, please know that your
efforts were very appreciated by 27 very special campers. “The bestest camp
ever!” was how one elementary camper described it. Keep your eyes peeled for
pictures from camp showing up in church very soon, and don’t forget to mark
August 12-19, 2012 on your calendar for next summer!

Fall Festival  Our annual Fall Festival is coming up in November.  As in the past, we will be having a soup, perogies and pie cafe.  More info and sign up sheets to come.  Please speak to Ann Christine in the meantime if you have any questions.

Parish Feast Day  September 24 is our own St. Peter’s feast day.  On Friday, September 23 there will be a Vesperal Divine Liturgy at 6:00, followed by a salmon supper.  The church will provide the salmon BBQ’d, with the remainder being a pot luck – starches, veggies, salads, desserts, wine. We will need 3 BBQ’s at least  to cook the salmon.

Announcements – September 4

Church School Teacher Needed     We are in need of a Grade1/2 teacher. Please contact Gina if you are interested. A curriculum is provided for the class.

Bishop’s Visit Cancelled     Bishop Irénée, who was tentatively scheduled to be at the parish for our feast day in September, will be unable to attend due to other Episcopal duties.

Lunch Teams     Lunch teams will resume in September.  We are looking for a captain for Lunch Team 1.  Please contact Susan Z. if you are interested.   We will start with lunch team 1 on Sept. 11 and carry on from there. Thanks in advance to all who step forward with their offering of food and assistance in keeping the lunch teams going.

Finances     The church has had a few additional expenses this summer. While we are in the black, things are tight at the moment. Please consider giving a little more to help our treasurer pay the bills. Please remember that regular giving helps us to budget more effectively.

Announcements – August 28

We are in need of a church school teacher for the grade 1/2 class.  Curriculum is provided. Please contact Gina if you are interested.

Bishop Irenee, who was tentatively scheduled to be at the parish for our feast day in September, will be unable to attend due to other episcopal duties.

Lunch teams will be starting up in September.  A captain is needed for Lunch Team 4.  Please contact Susan Z. if you are interested in organizing lunches for team 4 or if you would like to join a lunch team.  Since many people will be away for the long weekend, we will be having a potluck on September 4.  Please bring a dish to share and offer to help with cleanup.  We will start with Lunch Team 1 on September 11.
